Adapting such popular work as Bram Stokers famous vampire novel demands a new "take."  The Wings of Dracula is intended as a totally fresh look at all these characters, including (for example) all three of Lucy's suitors--and a refreshing re-imagination of Jonathan Harker.

Most of all, Dracula himsel is neither byronic anit-hero nor centuries old bully/warlord.  Rather, he is a being who barely remembers being human and has become a force of nature.  He is Death.  And every other person's relationship with Dracula is their relationship to death.
