An adaptation of H.G.Wells' science fiction classic, but aimed towards modern sensibilities and events.  The lead is now a woman reporter Beth Henderson in 1908 California where cylinders begin to fall from the sky, part of an invasion from the planet Mars.  The essential events of the novel proceed, albeit altered towards the specific location.  Trapped behind "enemy lines" Beth eventually joins another refugee/survivor and together they learn some terrifying secrets about the invaders.  How they respond to such haunts Beth to this day, as she writes her account, horrified by what her world has become in the wake of events.
